Alexis is teaching a tap class for students at Springfield College in Springfield, MA on Saturday, November 5th! A short talkback with the students will follow the class.

Join Alexis for a FREE, all levels contemporary dance class on the New Haven Green during Dance Exchange produced by the International Festival of Arts and Ideas. Wear sneakers and comfy clothes and get ready to wiggle!

Alexis, Luiza, and Sarah, along with an electric bass recording from Christie Echols, will be performing an excerpt from the Mercy Velvet Project on Saturday, June 10th at 6 PM at Elizabeth Park at the Hartford Dance Festival. Free, outdoor festival with over 25 performances and vendors.

Alexis and Sarah will be resurrecting their duet set to Sarah’s original poetry, Everything is taken care of, for the Spring for Spring Dance Festival in Metuchen, NJ. 4 PM performance outside in the Metuchen Town Plaza. Donations encouraged!

Save the date! Alexis and Luiza will be performing with the legendary jazz artist Jesse Hameen II and his band at Neighborhood Music School in New Haven on Friday, March 17th at 7 PM. It’s FREE! This athletic and rhythmic contemporary class will focus on combining aspects of modern dance and natural movement, with upbeat energy and footwork. Class will flow in and out of the ground, as well as create phrases with weight and direction changes that challenge both the mind and body. Get ready to get your heart rate up and definitely do everything on both sides. It is time to flow and groove.

Both companies are currently choreographing new dances. This will be an opportunity to see parts of these dances in their early stages, to hear about our dance making processes, AND to help us make an impromptu dance right before your eyes!

Alexis will be performing with musicians, Clifford Schloss, on guitar and Jamie Berlyn, on tenor saxophone, on the New Haven Green at 12 PM on Thursday, September 29th via the International Festival of Arts and Ideas and the Proprietors of the New Haven Green. MIXTAPE will “feature dance works that celebrate, support and uplift inclusivity and gender equality throughout our communities. Each artists’ work that is presented throughout the festival is an expression of their unique truths, beliefs and identities”. This class is for any musician looking to learn how to make music with a new instrument...your body (specifically your feet!)! Through the African American art form of tap dance technique, we will learn how to create percussive rhythms and phrases that will feel similar and brand new at the same time. We will start by going over a few basic tap steps in order to build a foundation of vocabulary and then move towards making phrases and improvisation games. Have you ever wondered how a tap dancer approaches a 32 bar chorus? Well you're about to learn! Do you play percussion and have wanted to better communicate with tap dancers? Well this is the class for you! Come with an open mind, willingness to have fun, and be ready to sing! This class is also open to any dancers that are new to tap dance (but not new to music theory) and want to work on their understanding of building phrases, musicality, and improvisation skills. No tap shoes required.

This class will be held OUTSIDE of the Dance Collective in the parking lot behind the building. We will be practicing strict social distancing guidelines. Please wear a mask!

Luiza and Alexis will be performing the third iteration of Are you or do you? in Femme Fest at Dixon Place at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, February 25th. Don’t miss out on even more ‘hand-ography’, a little theater, and a lot of tap and contemporary dance in this duet about questioning identity. We are splitting the bill with Morgan Dean. Alexis will be hosting one tap jam with live music per month, so join us for the February edition and first tap jam of 2020! We will have Isabella Mendes-Lira on vocals and keys, Flavio Lira on bass, and Jocelyn Pleasant on drums. This is an event for all people of all ages. All levels of tap dancers and musicians are welcome. There will be a short warm up and then we’ll call some tunes and jam the night away. Bring food or drinks to share if you can. $5-20 sliding scale.

Alexis and Sarah will be performing the second iteration of Everything is taken care of at the Arts on Site Performance Party on Saturday, February 1st. Doors at 7, show at 8 PM. $15 suggested donation. Come enjoy a relaxed evening of poetry, music, and dance with several artists in the beautiful Arts on Site space in downtown Manhattan.
